The origin of 1/6-scale doll models

Dolls have been a toy for children since a very long time. They mostly featured child-like features like big heads and eyes and often represented children.

A completely new doll image appeared with the Barbie dolls: these were the first dolls which represented a new doll image, away from the cute child-like appearance of traditional dolls for children to a new image of young adults, with more adult features of slim young women. This must have been quite a novelty when these "realistic" and fashionable dolls in scale 1/6 appeared on 9 March 1959. See all the info about Barbie dolls here on Wikipedia.

The Barbie dolls still had some "cuteness" to their faces, idealizing some features such as a slightly oversized head with big eyes. Nevertheless, also adults began to like those dolls, because they conveyed some kind of sexy-ness.

Fast-forward in time, and the Chinese company Phicen appears in 2014. They produced dolls in 1/6 scale which were much more realistic than the Barbie dolls, modelled exactly after human bodies and faces. While Barbie had some exaggerated features such as extremely slim body and narrow legs, these Phicen dolls were more realistic. They featured a seamless silicon body, with an internal steel skeleton with 28 articulation points. This did allow very realistic postures of those dolls.

Eventually, other competitors arrived, such as JIAOU, with similar concepts of these dolls.

Here someone collected information about Phicen and JIAOU dolls:

For legal reason, Phicen changed its name to TBLeague in 2017. But one still finds many of their dolls in the internet under both names.

Comparison of two specific female bodies: TBLeague S09C and JIAOU JOQ-07F-BS

I received a 2nd female body in the mail: the JIAOU Dolls JOQ-07F-BS. It is listed as "Asian shape, non-detachable foot, wheat skin, big bust". Since I do not yet have a suitable head, I cannot yet take pictures.

I can now compare this new body with the TBLeague S09C that I got last week.

Overall the JIAOU body appears to be a little higher. This is due to the longer lower part of the legs. To be honest, this looks a bit less natural than the TBLeague body which appears to be more balanced overall. The JIAOU body legs are a bit too long and too thin, in my opinion. Might work well for anime/cartoon characters.

The flexibility of both bodies is similar, with the JIAOU body being a bit easier to bend than the TBLeague body. This, however, makes the TBLeague body more stable.

Both bodies have seamless non-detachable feet, which I like. The TBLeague feet are a bit harder to move, which also means they remain better in their position when the doll is upright standing on its feet. The TBLeague feet are more nicely shaped at the sole, more realistic. The JIAOU sole is simply flat, but has nice modelling of individual toes.

The coloring of the skin is only slightly different. It appears that the S09C suntan is very similar to the "wheat" color of the JIAUOU body. This JIAOU mentions that this is an "Asian" shape, and probably the skin color is related to this. One must pay attention to the color of the head that will be used. Nice of the JIAOU body is that there is some slightly more pronounced showing of the bone structure: above the chest and in the back at the shoulder blades.

The hands of the JIAOU are superior to the ones of the TBLeague: they have red painted nails, and there are 4 more pairs with additional hand gestures. The TBLeague hands are without nail paint, and somewhat they appear to be too big sometimes. There was only one pair of hands with the TBLeague doll.

The nipples of the JIAOU doll are more perky and look more attractive.

Overall these two dolls are very similar, with some slight differences. Both are very attractive, each with their own characteristics. For the JIAOU it will probably be best to buy a wheat Asian female head.

Comparison of legs and feet of the two bodies. The left body is the TBLeague S09C , the right one is the JIAOU -07F-BS. Below is a comparison of the feet.

The JIAOU feet have more details, each toe is modelled individually. But this makes the feet also very susceptible to damage when putting on stockings or pressing the feet into tight shoes.

The TBLeague feet look more plain and less detailed, but when looking at them from the side, they appear to have a more elegant shape of the sole.

Below: comparison of the breasts. Both are "large" bust sizes.

All my OneSixthual doll bodies and heads

The following table shows the heads and bodies which I am using for my doll pictures.

The color of the cell indicates the color type of the body and head. These colors should be well matched, otherwise the head looks awkward on a wrongly colored body.
